It’s just too easy to find reasons not to do something. I am swamped with work (which is good) and it seems that my friends are just as busy. I am glad that we made time to get on the river. The weather was perfect, the current streamflow made for easy rafting, and we had new rafts to test! We drove toward Moab and went rafting on Colorado River from Hittle Bottom to the Takeout Beach (who came up with such a creative name?). The name of this run is “Moab Daily.”
It really is just a nice day trip. No major rapids, just “splashy” in places, which makes for a perfect run to relax and enjoy the scenery. The current streamflow is about 13,000 cfs and I can’t wait to see how big the rivers will get this spring and summer. We have record-high snow pack in the mountains and this stuff is beginning to melt.

Although we had two rafts, initially – to my delight – most piled onto The Carcass! I resolved the naming contest by just listening to my friends naturally referring to the Riken paddle raft as “The Carcass,” as in “is the Carcass holding up?” or “Are you going on the Carcass or with Marc?”
We spotted pieces from the burned Dewey Bridge on the river – check out my posting about the Dewey Bridge to see the photo.

This is a fun and interesting place and there is no shortage of places around to explore. If this was a hot summer day I would take the whole crew after the trip up the road toward La Sal Mountain Range and in less than 15 minutes we would reach the snow level. From 105F to snow in no time.
There was an old church (a historical site?) viewable only from the river. You can’t see it from Route 128 alongside the river, only from the river. I never saw this site before. I didn’t even notice it when we were on the river (Adrienne took all the good photos) but only later, when we were reviewing photos from the trip.

Pretty impressive pictures and presentation….all that work on the carcass was worth it!
What a beautiful day that was…
thanks for a great time,
Cynthia
Came across this while perusing pics of Moab
This last photo was a movie set originally. If I remember what I was told (a former river guide), it was featured in “Larger Than Life” with Bill Murray
It will always be the “Fun Express” in my mind.
Trish, it will be the “Fun Express” ONLY if you say it in a high-pitch voice with emphasis on “ess” in “express.” You must also bob your head from side to side as you say it with palms of your hands next to your face.
